hey there

I’m Abby

I'm Abigail Newman; Abby for short! I'm a lifestyle photographer located among the mountains in a tiny, one stoplight town in Virginia!

I'm a summer child through and through. A warm breeze seeping in an open window, running through the sprinkler together, family picnics outside our big pine, feeding our chickens fresh veggies after digging in the garden, and soaking in the warmest golden hour by the campfire to roast s'mores and watch the stars awaken. I absolutely adore reading and writing too. I love an early morning when the house is still sleeping, with the strong smell of coffee and a good journal or book. There is nothing better than getting lost in a book!

Travel often gives me the same sense of peace and adventure, calm and chaos, all wrapped up in one. My absolute favorite thing is exploring with my hubby and son. Whether it's a big trip, or just a walk down a trail by our home. We’ve been all over the world and getting lost in new cities has always made me feel whole and grounded somehow, but in combo with the pandemic changing our lifestyles, and then finally becoming pregnant after 3 years of trying with our daughter - changed everything.

It really made me cherish slow, intentional living. For the first 5 years of my career, I was a strictly a couples/wedding/elopement photographer and we booked nearly ever day for months straight. I thrived working and being so busy. While I still love a good wedding, I have come to focus on and specialize on all things motherhood and parenthood. It touches my heart so much getting to see my couples, start families and those little ones grow from bump to baby, from baby to toddler and beyond.

I can’t imagine doing anything else

Fun fact, I actually went to collage, but dropped out in my first year because I just knew there was something more for me. I always had an interest in photography since high school, I have the terribly embarrassing emo photo-shoots to prove it, unfortunately. LOL I got pregnant in 2014 with my son, and I knew I wanted a better camera to take photos of him with. When he was born in 2015, my camera never left my hands. I shared photos of him on Facebook like any baby crazed mom, and that’s when friends and family started asking if I would take photos of them too, then their friends and family, and eventually strangers, and then somehow I was a full - fledged photographer! I was a dog groomer at the time as well, and did both for a long while, until photography truly was too much to juggle with it, so I put down my grooming gear, and went full time with my camera! I honestly thought grooming was my passion, but once I started capturing such precious moments for other families, I knew this is what I was called to do. I truly cannot imagine doing anything else in this life. ♡

Here are some sweet moments from this little life of mine over the past year. Our favorite place to be - the beach! Finding out we are expecting and that it’s a girl!!! Getting my dream dog, a red Standard Poodle, her name is Kahlua! (:
